Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how HangulQuest ("we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the hangulquest.com website, the HangulQuest mobile app, and related services (together, the "Services").

1. Information we collect

• Account information (website) — your email address, used to sign in with a one-time code and to manage your account and points. The mobile app has no accounts and never asks for an email address (see "The mobile app" below).
• Usage information — pages visited, approximate country (derived from your IP address by our hosting provider), device type, and in-app learning activity (e.g. completed lessons, points, bookmarks).
• Content interactions — materials you claim or download and rewards you earn.
• Free download pages — when you download a free PDF from a page such as hangulquest.com/pdf/en, we record the download itself together with the edition language, your approximate country, device type, and where you came from. No account is required and no email address is needed to download.
• Optional mailing list — on those pages you may choose to leave your email address so we can tell you about new learning material and the app. This is entirely optional, requires you to tick a consent box, and is never a condition of downloading. You can ask us to remove your address at any time using the contact below.

We do not collect payment card numbers ourselves; purchases in the mobile app, if any, are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store.

1-B. The mobile app

The HangulQuest app works without an account: it asks for no email address, no sign-in and no personal details, and it does not create, read or send any device identifier or advertising ID. Your learning progress, bookmarks and settings are stored on your device only.

The app sends anonymous usage events — for example that a quest was started or a word was completed, together with the hour of the day. No identifier is attached, so these events cannot be linked to you or to each other. Our server stores them only as counters grouped by app version, country, date and event type; it derives the country from the request header provided by our hosting provider and does not read or store your IP address, device model, or user agent.

2. How we use information

• To provide and improve the Services (sign-in, saving your learning progress and points across devices).
• To send you sign-in codes and, only if you request them, learning materials.
• To send occasional updates about new learning material and the app — only to addresses given to us voluntarily with consent, and only until you ask us to stop.
• To understand aggregate usage (e.g. how many visitors come from each country) so we can improve our lessons.

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Cookies

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies: a session cookie to keep you signed in, a language preference cookie, and an anonymous visitor identifier used for aggregate statistics.

4. YouTube API Services

Our Services use YouTube API Services to manage and display our own educational videos. By using features that rely on YouTube content, you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service. Google's handling of information is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Our use of the YouTube API is limited to our own channels and videos; we do not access, store, or process other users' YouTube data through the API.

5. Service providers

We rely on a small set of infrastructure providers to run the Services: Supabase (database and authentication), Vercel (website hosting), and Resend (transactional email such as sign-in codes). These providers process data on our behalf and under their own security commitments.

6. Data retention and your rights

• Account data is kept while your account is active.
• You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data at any time by contacting us at the address below. Account deletion removes your profile, points, and learning history.
• If you are in a jurisdiction with specific data-protection rights (such as the EU/GDPR or Korea's PIPA), you may exercise those rights through the same contact.

7. Children

The Services are intended for general audiences and are not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected on this page with an updated effective date.
